Repurposing commercial premises to create a fully-equipped emergency services vehicle workshop

Having outgrown its previous facility, NWAS acquired a former carpet showroom and warehouse in Workington with a proposal to create a spacious new workshop that architects stated in the planning application would "bring efficient and reliable services to the local community". The development of the new workshop included a complete refurbishment and repurposing of the site, including:

  • Installation of EV charging points for NWAS' electric vehicles
  • Removal of internal ceilings and partition walls to create more open working spaces
  • Installation of a new roller shutter door to allow for vehicle entrance and egress
  • Installation of MOT facilities for in-house vehicle testing
  • Creation of internal office spaces for a fully-serviced workshop and maintenance depot
  • Creation of external ambulance parking area
