Training workshop installation for Tameside College’s Automotive Centre
Project brief
Further education provider Tameside College in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, delivers adult and university-level courses and further education for school leavers, as well as NVQs, BTECs, apprenticeships and other vocational qualifications.
In recent years, Tameside College has invested heavily in its infrastructure, developing state-of-the-art facilities including a fine dining restaurant in the town centre, a hair and beauty salon, and a construction skills centre. In 2024, the college began work on a brand new automotive workshop equipped with industry-leading technology to support students working towards qualifications including Car Mechanics, Vehicle Accident Repair, and Vehicle Maintenance.
Fully-equipped workshop by CCS for Tameside College’s automotive training
CCS Garage Equipment was appointed to deliver a fully-equipped workshop installation for Tameside College’s new Automotive Centre, creating an immersive training facility for further education students. The £7m project, part-funded by the Department for Education, established a teaching environment focused on “green transport” skills to serve the future automotive industry.
Expert garage equipment design consultancy by CCS maximised the space available in the Tameside College workshop, accommodating vehicle lifts, MOT bay and a wheel alignment bay, alongside training and working spaces for wheel and tyre changing that will ensure students benefit from a comprehensive education in vehicle maintenance and workshop operations.
Reliable, industry-leading equipment by trusted suppliers was installed by CCS’ garage equipment installation engineers, including a suite of 12 Nussbaum Smart Lifts, dummy MOT bay, dedicated wheel alignment bay and associated equipment, brake tester, and Cormach tyre changing equipment. The workshop also features a hybrid and electric vehicle trainer, paint spray booth and mixing room, LEV fume extraction and ancillary services.
Supervised throughout by CCS’ dedicated project manager, the Tameside College workshop’s equipment installation was fully tested prior to commission. Our experienced engineers delivered training to the workshop’s supervising staff to ensure the safe operation of vehicle lifts and equipment before the site was handed over, ready to get to work. CCS continues to maintain the workshop with routine servicing and inspections, ensuring a safe and compliant learning space for staff and students.
