North West Ambulance Service, Cumbria
Fully-equipped workshop for North West Ambulance Service’s new Cumbria base
Project brief
With extensive prior experience in developing vehicle servicing and maintenance facilities for emergency services throughout the UK, CCS was pleased to be appointed by North West Ambulance Service to design and install its new, up-to-the-minute facility in Workington, Cumbria.
Having outgrown previous premises, NWAS acquired and repurposed a former carpet showroom and warehouse in the town. Comprehensively refurbishing the site to bring it up to date in order, the new workshop supports the ambulance services’ regional operations across a rural area which depends on road-ready, reliable vehicles to deliver the outcomes local people need.
Emergency services vehicle workshop design, installation & management by CCS
North West Ambulance Service appointed CCS Garage Equipment to work alongside its building and other contractors, creating a state-of-the-art workshop facility that includes EV charging points, open working spaces, ease of vehicle access and egress, and new office spaces for the servicing, maintenance, testing and repair of its fleet of essential service vehicles.
CCS’ garage equipment design and installation specialists were involved in this project right from the outset, contributing commercial vehicle workshop design and specification expertise and liaising with our leading manufacturer suppliers, before moving on site to manage the installation and final commission of NWAS’ new garage equipment.
Managed by CCS’ dedicated project manager throughout, equipment at the new North West Ambulance Service workshop in Workington, Cumbria, includes 3x Stertil Koni 2-post Freedomlifts with 5500KG SWL capacities, 1x Stertil Koni Four Post lift with SWL of 7000KG, a fully-equipped Class 4 & 7 MOT bay, Cormach tyre changing and wheel balancing equipment, and an epoxy resin floor paint scheme and installation for safe movement and transit around the workshop by vehicles and technicians.
Expertly-engineered equipment was specified for this project owing to its reliability. Emergency services need to be operational around the clock, and the NWAS team can depend on efficient, safe and user-friendly technology to support its work. Following installation, equipment was thoroughly tested prior to commission and our client’s technician team given full training in its safe use in order to prevent accidents and equipment failure. Routine maintenance, servicing and examination by CCS will now keep NWAS’ workshop up and running year after year.
