CCS Garage Equipment has delivered a fully-equipped workshop installation for Tameside College, creating a leading Automotive Centre for automotive students in this further education setting.
Tameside College, based in Ashton-under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, is a further education college delivering adult and university-level courses and further education for school leavers, together with NVQs, BTECs, apprenticeships and other vocational qualifications.
The college has invested heavily in its infrastructure, developing state-of-the-art facilities including a town centre fine dining restaurant, hair and beauty salon, construction skills centre, and a fully-equipped sports hall and gym alongside its local learning centres and Clarendon Sixth Form College.
Earlier this year, Tameside College commenced work on its latest investment, a brand new automotive workshop equipped with leading technology to support students working towards qualifications including Car Mechanics, Classic Car Restoration, Vehicle Accident Repair, Vehicle Maintenance, and Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs.
This £7m project at Tameside College's Beaufort Road campus brings the college's facilities in step with industry changes, equipped with up-to-the-minute garage equipment and now fully open to students.
The new training and education workshop was partly funded by the Department for Education, creating a teaching environment within which students will learn new "green transport" skills to serve the future of the automotive industry.
Tameside College formally opened the Automotive Centre in October 2024, and showcased the facilities at open events for future students.
The Automotive Centre also proved to be an excellent training facility at a recent employer visit. Apprentices and staff from international dealerships and an Australian apprenticeship provider took part in a cultural exchange, visiting Tameside College to demonstrate technology being used by Mercedes and to lead a range of activities including fault-finding tasks and diagnostics, learning about the differences between UK and Australian MOT requirements, and a Q&A with current apprentices.
