Project Update: New National Express workshop gets underway in Birmingham

Development of National Express's new state-of-the-art workshop facility in Perry Barr, Birmingham, is now underway. Led by main contractor BAM Construction, CCS Garage Equipment is working alongside our client and its contractor teams to install garage equipment that will support the network's growing fleet for years to come.

National Express will relocate its existing bus and coach maintenance operations in Perry Barr to a new depot on a site nearby, instantly modernising facilities to provide greater capacity, particularly for new electric vehicles joining the fleet. 

Part of large-scale regeneration in the area driven by the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham in summer 2022, CCS Garage Equipment was appointed to the project following a competitive tender process and will deliver key elements of this purpose-built facility which is designed to provide up-to-the-minute vehicle maintenance, servicing, office and administration spaces for National Express's team.

Initial groundworks and our first utilities installations have commenced, with construction of the building now largely complete. CCS' work on this project includes:

• Installation of oil distribution systems
• Installation of compressed air systems
• Installation of fume extraction systems
• Set-up of oil monitoring systems

As the project continues, a new prefabricated steel pit will be installed before the main floor slab is poured, the building's construction completed and the garage equipment fit-out completed. Work is expected to be completed in July 2022.
