🔧 Commercial workshop installation underway at new TJ Morris VMU in Doncaster

Following the brand's significant investments in VMUs in Liverpool and Amesbury, TJ Morris is set to launch its latest Vehicle Maintenance Unit at the Unity Connect site in Doncaster, South Yorkshire later this year. 

Part of a vast, brand new 1 million sq ft distribution centre site that will serve over 300 Home Bargains stores, the dedicated, on-site Doncaster VMU adds valuable operational support for fleet vehicles across Yorkshire and northern and eastern regions of the UK. The distribution centre will create up to 1000 jobs and is expected to be fully operational by 2028 following complex installation of automation processes for the distribution centre's warehousing.  

This huge site's purpose-built facilities include: 

• Main warehouse and extensive external hardstanding areas
• 106 loading dock doors
• State-of-the-art picking technology & intelligent warehouse management system
• 104 stacker cranes
• 470,000 storage locations for pallets, trays and totes
• Over 15km of conveyors
• Ergonomic work stations for logistics employees
• Modern office spaces
• Commercial kitchen and staff canteen area
• Sustainable and efficient construction which has featured concrete batched on site to reduce vehicle movements, and reused precast piles for the creation of temporary works areas     

VMU workshop installation progresses for leading national retailer & fleet operator 

The steel construction of the VMU building was completed in November 2025, with ground floor slab, cladding and initial external hard standing areas also now completed, or approaching completion.

CCS' experienced commercial workshop installation team commenced work on site following installation of the floor slab, and substantial internal fit out works are now underway.

Construction of the structure of this spacious new VMU is largely complete, and the internal areas are prepared for groundworks prior to installation of commercial workshop garage equipment including in-ground piston lifts, steel inspection pits and ATF lanes.

The exterior of the vast distribution centre site, which includes a new, automated warehouse, extensive external hardstanding and modern office spaces, as well as the brand new Vehicle Maintenance Unit on site in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

Groundworks are underway prior to installation of the in-ground piston lift at the new VMU for TJ Morris/Home Bargains in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. The lift's cassette is in place, and the concrete pour for the floor slab will secure this initial phase of the installation.

The commercial workshop for TJ Morris/Home Bargains includes fully-equipped ATF lanes for complete in-house vehicle testing and maintenance. The test lane cassettes are installed here, including separate tunnel access and exit points.

Ongoing installation of this commercial workshop's vehicle inspection pits, commencing with groundworks and installation of prefabricated pit cassettes. 

Following the concrete floor slab pour, the in-ground piston lift's cassette and groundworks are secured in readiness for the next phase of installation at this new Vehicle Maintenance Unit for TJ Morris/Home Bargains in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. 

The fully-equipped VMU for TJ Morris/Home Bargains will be operated by the client's in-house technicians in a purpose-built space designed for efficiency, safety and operational compliance. 

The workshop's floor is now laid and the structural elements completed. Roller shutter doors will complete the exterior walls, and initial fix of pipework for services including LEV, compressed air and lubrication will soon be underway. 

The VMU for TJ Morris/Home Bargains in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, starts to take shape. The floor slab is in place following initial groundworks to install cassettes for in-ground equipment including the piston vehicle lift, steel inspection pits and mini-pit access and egress points, and our CCS Garage Equipment team will soon move onto the next phase of installation, including initial pipework for services. 

Our garage equipment installation for this extensive commercial vehicle workshop includes an overhead workshop crane for safe heavy duty lifting. The overhead travelling single girder crane was professionally installed above one of the workshop's vehicle service bays.
